Life’s Greatest Loss and How Not to Lose it!

In the past 2 weeks, I have received some very surprising news. It has led me to evaluate life and how I’m living it. So in today’s post, I not only want to share the news with you, but share a simple message I stumbled upon that may help you live your life in a more fulfilling way.

First, let me start by saying that I’ve been wearing my hair natural (without a perm) for about 3 years now. On YouTube you will find plenty videos of people providing natural hair tips and tutorials. Well one of those people is Meechy Monroe. She and her sister MsVaughn have been instrumental in my natural hair journey. And to my surprise, I found out that Meechy suffered multiple strokes! It was discovered that her strokes were due to a rare sarcoma (or vascular cancerous tumor) in her brain. My first thought was, “What?! She’s so young and vibrant…How can she have cancer?!”

The second round of surprising news came a couple of days ago. I found out that a fellow college classmate of mine, Patrick Anderson, went into cardiac arrest! Talk about shocked! We aren’t “besties” but he is definitely a colleague that left a positive impression on me in college. We both majored in Ceramic and Material Engineering at Clemson University. It was a much smaller group of students in that discipline versus the other engineering disciplines. Because of this, we along with a group of others, ended up in the same exact classes at the same exact time about 80% of the time! You don’t get a lot of variety being such a small group! Lol!

Both Meechy and Patrick represent me in some way…and that’s why the news of their illnesses struck me in such a profound way. Meechy is a young, African American, natural hair wearing, successful woman. Patrick is 29 years old, attended Clemson University, and graduated with a degree in Ceramic and Material Engineering. All the aforementioned descriptors also describe me. It could easily be me in their positions right now versus sitting at my laptop writing this blog post.

Meechy and Patrick are different in many ways…but one thing that they do have in common is a zest for life and living it to the fullest! Meechy has achieved a viral presence on YouTube as a self-proclaimed Natural Hair Enthusiast, boasting well over 30,000 subscribers who tune-in regularly to view her new Hairstyle and Fashion ideas. Patrick was an accomplished collegiate rower at Clemson University, has biked from coast to coast to raise money for families in need, dominated marathons, and conquered an Ironman Triathlon!

Meechy and Patrick’s current situations have reminded me to live life to the fullest! You never know what tomorrow holds…. live life now, make an impact now, and enjoy life now. Life’s greatest lost isn’t death, but when life dies inside of you while you are alive!!

Meechy and Patrick are still battling through their circumstances, but I’m praying for a full and speedy recovery! Please find it in your heart to donate and help their families cover their unexpected medical bills. The links below can be used to donate. Thanks in advance for your kindness!
